Definition of Food

Food is something that we eat to give our bodies the energy and nutrition that we need to grow and stay healthy.

Types of Food
There are various types of food that are important for our body. These are:

Fruits and Vegetables

These are colourful and tasty foods that come from plants.
Fruits like apples, bananas and oranges are sweet and refreshing. Vegetables like carrots, broccoli and spinach are crunchy and good for us. They give us vitamins, minerals and fibre that helps in fighting diseases and keeps us healthy.

Grains

Grains are foods like bread, pasta, rice and cereal. They give us the energy to run, play and think.

Protein

Protein is like building blocks for our bodies. It helps us grow muscles, bones and skin. Good sources of protein are chicken, fish, eggs, beans and nuts. They help us stay strong and healthy.

Dairy Products

These are foods like milk, cheese and yoghurt. They give us calcium, which is important for our bones and teeth. We can choose low-fat or non-fat options to keep our bodies healthy.

Healthy Fats

Some foods have fats that are good for our bodies, like avocados, nuts and olive oil. These fats help our brains grow and work well.

It's important to try to eat a little bit of each of these food groups every day.

All of these foods are further divided into different categories depending on the benefit they provide to our body. They are:
