Sort Your Gmail Inbox With Ease: Receive Notifications That You Want

Gmail is one of Google's most used applications. It can be used to send, receive, and manage various personal, crucial, and professional chats, documents, photos, videos, and much more. Everything that has been sent to you can be seen in your Inbox. However, you may receive many emails throughout the day, so how can you find any crucial document you require urgently in your inbox? Well, all this comes under managing and categorising the Inbox on Gmail. Thus, if you want to learn about it, you can delve into the provided guide, where you will learn about different categories of the Inbox and how you can manage it, to make your Inbox more categorised and easy to use.

Different Inbox Categories in Gmail

At the default setting of your Inbox in Gmail, you can find the different categories, which can be seen as follows:

  • Primary- Emails you receive from the people you know and don't appear in any other categories.
  • Social- Emails that you receive from social networks or media-sharing sites.
  • Promotions- Any deals, offers, and other kinds of promotional emails.
  • Updates- Automated notifications, reminders, confirmations, or statements not required for immediate attention.
  • Forums- Emails that you receive from any online group, mailing lists, or discussion boards that you have joined.

Note: If your inbox contains more than 250,000 emails, you won't be able to use these differentiated categories. Thus, you have to delete your inbox mails from time to time so that the limit doesn't exceed, and you can clearly show these categories.

Process to Add or Remove Inbox Categories

  • Open your Gmail account.
  • You must click on the settings icon at the top right corner of your account.
  • Click on "See all settings."
  • At the top, you would have to select the "Inbox" option.
  • In the space in front of the "Inbox type" section, select "Default" or any other category you want to use to categorize your emails.
  • In the "Category" section, check the box next to the category based on your choice of which category you want to maintain and which you don't.
  • After making all the changes you want, you can click "Save Changes," which is available at the bottom of the page.

Note: If you turn on notifications for any new messages you receive in your Gmail, you will only receive notifications for emails in the "Primary" category. Thus, if you want to receive from any other categories as well, you have to remove that category so that it will also come under the "Primary" category and enable you to get notified about it.
