Who is this for
For your parents, for kids, for you. If long road trips feel hard, this plan makes the chardham yatra by helicopter simple. Short flights. Clean stays. Smooth darshan. And yes—lots of hand-holding by Leisure India Holidays.
Why choose helicopter over road?
· It’s fast. You cover four dhams in a few days instead of many long days on road.
· It’s gentle. Less fatigue for knees, back, and heart.
· It’s simple. Clear timings, curated meals, temple entry help, and small bags only.
· It’s safer in hills when weather allows flying. If clouds come, we pause and re-route. (Heli flying in hills always depends on weather; delays are normal.)
Best time in simple words
· May–June (before heavy rains): bright days, busy temples.
· September–October (after rains): cool air, pretty views.
· Tip: keep one extra buffer day for weather. (Hill weather can change fast.)
The route you’ll actually feel
We start at Dehradun – Sahastradhara Helibase. Then we fly to each dham in short hops. Your order can change if weather asks us to, but a common flow is:
1. Yamunotri (Kharsali helipad) → 2) Gangotri (Jhalla/Harsil) → 3) Kedarnath (Sersi shuttle) → 4) Badrinath (town helipad) → back to Dehradun.
(These are real hill bases used in heli pilgrimages.)
Day-by-day, in easy steps
Day 0: Dehradun check-in
· Our team meets you, briefs you, and checks weights.
· We give you a soft duffel (tiny bag life!). Pack warm layers, medicines, socks, cap, power bank.
Day 1: Dehradun → Yamunotri (Kharsali)
· Quick flight. Green views. Fresh air.
· Yamunotri has a 6 km path from the village. We arrange palki/pony if you want. Walk slow, breathe easy, sip water.
· Evening aarti feels soft and sweet.
Day 2: Kharsali → Gangotri (Jhalla/Harsil)
· Fly to Jhalla, drive to Harsil (apple village!).
· Visit Gangotri Temple for darshan. Rest at riverside; take small steps, no rush.
Day 3: Harsil/Jhalla → Sersi → Kedarnath (shuttle)
· Land at Sersi. Shuttle chopper takes you up to Kedarnath and back.
· Darshan help is arranged; still, be patient, keep hands free, follow crew.
Day 4: Sersi → Badrinath
· Short hop to Badrinath helipad. Temple is a few minutes away by car.
· Darshan, hot tea, light lunch, rest. If time allows, quick visit to Mana village.
Day 5: Badrinath → Dehradun
· Return to Sahastradhara. Happy faces. Warm hugs. Homeward plan begins.
What makes the helicopter plan “no-stress”
· Small bags only: usually 5 kg per person in a soft duffel. Big suitcases don’t fly in hill choppers. (This is a standard heli safety practice.)
· Fixed windows, flexible mind: we share target timings, but bad weather can shuffle them. We re-plan for you.
· Temple timing friendly: team aligns darshan with daily temple schedules.
· Health first: these shrines sit high; walk slow, keep warm, and talk to your doctor before you come if you have any health issue.
Simple packing list (really simple)
· 1 warm jacket, 1 sweater, woollen cap, gloves, muffler
· Light shoes with grip + extra socks
· Personal medicines + small first-aid
· ID proof, phone, charger/power bank
· Dry snacks, ORS, water bottle
· Rain jacket (post-noon showers can surprise you)
Easy food & stay
· Hot veg meals. Tea/coffee at key stops.
· Neat rooms near bases; warm blankets; early dinners so you sleep well.
· We try for ground-floor rooms for seniors when possible. (Tell us early.)
Registration: do this before you fly
· Yatra registration is mandatory with Uttarakhand Tourism. Do it online via the Registration & Tourist Care portal or the official app Tourist Care Uttarakhand. Keep your QR/e-pass handy for on-ground verification.
Money & time tips
· Prices change by season and hotel grade. Ask us for today’s quote.
· Keep cash + UPI both. ATMs are few in small valleys.
· Add one buffer day after your yatra for weather delays.
How Leisure India Holidays helps (the “hand-holding” part)
· We plan the whole flow around your parents’ energy and your child’s nap time.
· We manage the small actions: check-ins, bags, vehicles, palki/pony at Yamunotri, shuttle at Kedarnath, temple queues, meals.
· We keep you updated on weather, road notes, and local advisories.
Important official notes (short & clear)
· Char Dham = Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath, Badrinath (Uttarakhand Tourism).
· Dehradun Sahastradhara is the common helibase for these tours; Kharsali (Yamunotri), Jhalla/Harsil (Gangotri), Sersi (Kedarnath shuttle), Badrinath helipad are real field bases used in operations. Baggage limit commonly ~5 kg per person in soft bags. Flying depends on weather.
· Kedarnath & Hemkund official heli tickets (point-to-point) run on the Govt. platform (IRCTC Heliyatra). Circuit-style multi-day heli tours are arranged by licensed operators/tour companies.
· Yatra Registration is required through registrationandtouristcare.uk.gov.in / Tourist Care Uttarakhand app. Keep the QR handy.
