Did You Know These Effects Of Temperature On Growing Weed Indoors

One of the main ideal conditions to get good yield and better results is to provide the marijuana plants with ideal temperature, humidity, water, and nutrients.

If the ideal conditions are not met, it will cause serious problems, and the overall nutrients absorption abilities of the plant will also be affected.

This article will explain the importance of temperature and how not giving the ideal temperature affects various aspects of growing weed.

How to setup indoors for ideal temperature

Before we start growing marijuana, we must know about various temperature aspects and the effects of not maintaining the ideal temperature.

1- Effect of temperature on weed plants

The temperature regulates many crucial functions responsible for the growth, photosynthesis, and development of the plant. If the room's temperature is either too hot or too cold, then it will have unbearable consequences on the plants.

  1. The ideal temperature up to which the plants can handle the temperature is up to 80℉. If the temperature is too hot, the plants can die from extreme temperatures. Extreme weather also attracts several pests and diseases, and the plants become too weak to fight.

  2. If the room's temperature is low, then the plant won’t distribute sugar equally, and the sugar will be stuck in one place. The plants produce fewer buds, and sometimes the plants stop growing altogether.

  3. Since the weed plant’s leaves evaporate around 90% of the water, the humidity should be maintained properly. Initially, the humidity should be around 70%, gradually reducing it to 40%.

  4. Water vapor and condensation play an important role because the room should hold off the water in the air as much as possible. If the water starts condensing, the temperature will reduce, which can be seen as tiny droplets forming on the leaves. More moisture will be responsible for growing fungus which will destroy the plants.

2- The room should be maintained as per the ideal conditions

To regulate the internal condition of the room, you need to think about the temperature, natural or artificial lighting, and the rate of evaporation. You need to keep in mind the following points: -

1. The location of the room- if the room is located in the basement, then there are fewer chances of natural light entering the basement. Also, the basement will be cooler.

Hence there are chances of the room getting colder than needed. The airflow and the ventilation should be proper or else, it will affect the roots, and the roots will be the first to rot.

2. Keep the room temperature in check- we cannot stress the importance of keeping the room at an ideal room temperature. When you’re planting the seeds and when the lights are turned on, the temperature should be around 68℉ to 77℉.

Once they get bigger, the temperature should be increased to a maximum of 81℉. When you turn off the lights, the temperature should be around 59℉ to 72℉. During the night, the temperature should not go below 64℉.

3- At different stages, the temperature should be different

The plants need different temperatures during different stages, and the temperature ranges are given below: -

  1. During germination, the seeds or clones do not have roots. They depend on the leaves to get water. Hence during the germination stage, the temperature should be between 68℉ to 77℉.

  2. Vegetative stage- the plants need higher humidity at around 70%. Hence, the temperature should be the same as the germination stage. During this stage, ensure that during the night or the daytime, the temperature should not drop below 59℉.

  3. Flowering stage- the plants are more developed, and they can survive in a condition with low humidity. The temperature must be under 82℉. The terpene production is more, and also the buds will develop in vibrant colors.

  4. The harvesting stage-this is the last stage when the humidity will be at the lowest at 40% to 45%. This helps in increased trichome production, and the buds will be more potent. The temperature should be around 64℉ with good airflow.

4- Frequently measure the temperature of the room

You cannot get an idea of the plant's temperature by noting the temperature of the room. Although it is an indication of their overall health and how good the plants are.

Depending on your budget and the conditions, you can either get an analog or a digital thermometer for the growth room. Ensure that the thermometer you buy has a built-in memory to show you the previous readings of the room.

This will help you in deciding how you need to manage the temperature. Growers can measure the temperature by standing in the shade and not in the direct pathways of the light. Also, the light should be kept away from the plants, or else the lights will burn the edges of the leaves.

5- Regulating the temperature of the room

Till now, we mentioned how the ideal temperature is very important for good yields. In this segment, we will discuss how you can regulate the temperature of the room.

1. If you need to increase the temperature- when growing indoors, the grow light is the main heat source for the plants.

If the temperature is not ideal, check the airflow and ensure that the air reaches every corner equally. When you turn off the lights, the temperature may drop during the winters.

Then you can use the heater to increase the temperature. However, this increases your energy bills. You can also use a radiator with a thermostat.

2. If you need to lower the temperature, you can try turning the lights off since the light sources are responsible for the heat. But some growers who cannot turn off the light for longer periods often use an air-conditioner to regulate the temperature.

You can use LEDs instead of HPS lamps. Extractor fans also help with the airflow. The fans blow the hot air from the room outside and suck in colder and fresh air for good growth.

3. Running the lights during the night- growers who are new and cannot afford the items mentioned above use the best source at their disposal.

The temperature of the room is kept towards the lower side by running the lights at night. After sunset, the lights are turned off for a couple of hours, and after sunrise, the lights are turned off.

This helps the plants get heat during the colder nights and helps regulate the room's temperature.

Final thoughts

This was an overview of the effect of temperature for growing weed after you purchase the seeds from Homegrown Cannabis Co. It also showed you how to regulate the room's temperature. Now that you have this crucial point covered, you can look forward to bumper harvest and let you zoom ahead in your weed cultivation business.
