The iPhone 13 is more of a refresh than a complete redesign of the iPhone 12, but even minor design differences can result in previous generation cases not fitting. That means that whichever iPhone 13 model you buy, including the iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max, will require a new case.

Is it necessary for me to purchase a MagSafe case?
It’s worth noting that all of Apple’s new iPhone 13 models come with the MagSafe feature, which allows for faster wireless charging with compatible chargers. Optional accessories, such as the MagSafe wallet, mini wallets, and various mounts, can be magnetically attached to the back of your phone. The iPhone 13 has an “array of magnets” (Apple claims they’re recycled) embedded around a charging coil that can pull up to 15 watts of power, just like the iPhone 12 case.

You’ll need a phone case with MagSafe support if you want to use those MagSafe accessories without taking your phone out of its case. A circle with a short pipe below it is the MagSafe symbol. On clear days, you can see it.

What kind of case should I get to protect my phone?
I prefer cases that aren’t too thick but provide adequate drop protection, such as those with a lip over the screen’s edge (also known as a “screen bumper”) and raised corners to prevent your phone’s screen from cracking if it falls face down. Your screen will be better protected with a folio case.
The good news is that you don’t need to spend a lot of money on an ultra-protective iPhone 13 case like the OtterBox Defender to get adequate protection. The majority of cases are relatively thin while still providing at least 6-foot drop protection. For those who prefer minimal protection, I included one very thin case on this list. remember how much your phone costs before you go with a case like that, but it’s better than having no case at all. To prevent deep scratches and protect the screen on your iPhone 13, make sure you get a well-tempered glass screen protector.
