Difference Between App Store Vs Play Store

Difference Between App Store vs Play Store

The only difference is the source of the applications. Some download the apps from the App Store and some download them from the Play Store. In this blog, we’ll deep dive into the difference between the two and try to ascertain which is the better one.

Google Play Store and Apple App Store are the official app stores for two operating systems, Android and iOS, respectively. They were both launched in 2008 and ever since have gained massive popularity. Developers work day and night to create new and exciting games and apps that feature on these app stores. Companies hire extremely talented and skilled developers, like the developers at Phonato Studios, to build apps for their organizations to further improve their business. The importance of apps has increased tremendously since 2008 and it will keep on increasing.

Now let’s take a comprehensive look at the difference between Google Play Store and Apple App Store:

Quality

The quality and safety of an app can be easily judged based on the amount of time taken by the app store to approve the app. When it comes to the Play Store, it takes less than two hours, in some cases, for apps to be reviewed, and approved. Many experts believe that this is not enough time to carefully inspect a new game or app. In contrast, the App Store takes a much longer time to review an app and upload it to the platform. Approximately, 90% of apps get inspected by the App Store within 48 hours. This is enough evidence to prove that the apps available on the App Store are higher in quality and are much safer for users which means less to no chances of any scams or threat to the user privacy. Google also has great apps, but one may come across apps that have the potential to compromise the security of a device.

Revenue

Google Play Store and Apple App Store, both have the same policy when it comes to sharing revenue with developers - 70% of revenue goes to the developer and 30% goes to the store. However, Apple outperforms Google when it comes to the amount of revenue generated. In 2020, the App Store’s estimated revenue was $72.3 billion, while the Play Store generated only $40 billion through Android apps. The App Store was responsible for 65% of total app revenue generated. This is surprising since Android accounts for 71.44% of the mobile operating system market share worldwide as of 2021. Additionally, the total value of Apple, as of 2021, was $2,104 trillion, making it the most valuable company in the world.

Growth

The expansion of both the apps store has been substantial since their launch in 2008. In this factor, both the stores are toe-to-toe with no clear winner. The Play Store has seen remarkable growth in the number of Android apps over the year, so has the App Store.

It is very difficult to decide which is the better app store as both have their benefits as well as drawbacks. The only true test is time, and only time will tell which one will prevail.
