According to a Knight Frank-RICS assessment, the construction industry in India presently employs 7.1 crore people, with that figure expected to reach 10 crore by the year 2030. According to the report, the current USD 650 billion in real estate-related production in India is expected to increase to USD 1 trillion by 2030.A study titled "Skilled Employment in Construction Sector in India" that examines the growth in this industry and emphasises the current levels and gaps in skilled employment in the sector was launched on Thursday by real estate consultants Knight Frank India and the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS).

"India's real estate and infrastructure sectors' expansion would lead to a significant increase in demand for labour in the sector. The survey stated that as technology has advanced, the construction industry has also made adjustments to increase productivity, increasing the need for trained labour.

According to the research, the second-largest employer in India is the construction industry, which is expected to employ 71 million people (or 7.1 crore) by 2023. However, just 19% of this workforce is skilled, and 81% are unskilled workers.

According to the report, 100 million people will be employed in the construction sector by 2020 in order to meet economic growth goals. According to the report, "due to the growing demand for real estate and infrastructure, the demand for skilled employees will continue to arise from developers, construction firms, consulting firms, etc., whereas the supply of the skilled manpower is to be generated from government initiatives, academic and training institutes."

According to estimates from the National Skill Development Council (NSDC), the real estate industry employs 87% of all workers (skilled and unskilled), while the infrastructure sector employs 13%.Of the 71 million people that work in the construction business, 4.4 million are core skilled workers including engineers, technicians, and clerical staff, and 6.9 million are workers with vocational training.
